UK authorities have seized more than 700 firearms in the UK after a five-year operation in cooperation with the Spanish police to stop weapons that can be converted into deadly weapons from entering the country. The Independent quoted Sunday the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) as saying that it had confiscated, in cooperation with the Spanish Civil Guard, 703 pieces of firearms and carried out 74 arrests, 50 convictions and 133 searches. According to the NCA, the operation, which also involved international law enforcement agencies and firearms retailers, targeted blanks without rounds similar to pistols such as those manufactured by Glock. The newspaper added that the confiscated weapons are legal in some parts of Europe but illegal to possess or import in the UK.
