ROME: Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar of the UAE Team Emirates claimed his third stage win yesterday in the Prati di Tivo stage of the Giro d’Italia, finishing in 4:02:16 hours.
Stage 8 extended from Spoleto and ended at the top of Prati di Tivo with a length of 14.7 km.
The cyclists competed over a distance of 152 km, which included crossing two uphill climbs, Forca Capistrello (category 2) and Croce Abbio (category 3).
The upcoming ninth stage is the longest in the Giro, stretching for 214 km and starting from Avellino and ending in Naples with a final section on the hills.
UAE Team Emirates managed to control the 14-rider breakaway group, gaining them around two minutes to gradually close the gap at the front of the race on the final climb until the pink jersey holder was able to win the race in the final sprint.
