UAE a pioneer in promoting sustainability, diversifying energy sources: President of Palau

TOKYO, 17th June, 2023 (WAM) — Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, praised the UAE’s domestic and international efforts in promoting sustainability and diversifying energy sources, including through renewable energy projects, with a specific focus on solar energy. He confirmed his country’s participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), which will be hosted in the UAE at Expo City Dubai this coming November. Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), President Surangel S. Whipps Jr, who is currently visiting Japan, lauded the UAE efforts in climate action and environmental responsibility. He said, “As a responsible and reliable partner of the international community, the UAE plays a leading role in climate action and in supporting efforts towards a clean energy transition. It is home to the largest solar energy projects in the world, invests in solar energy projects in many countries, and has made significant investments in peaceful nuclear energy in Abu Dhabi.” He added that Palau supports the appointment of Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, as COP28 President-Designate. “Climate and energy issues are linked together. Facing the challenges of climate change and global warming and supporting environmental conservation efforts globally will require constructive cooperation between oil producers and consumers,” the President of Palau concluded.
