William Chan Hei Lung, General Secretary of Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong, has lauded the UAE as a role model in empowering and integrating People of Determination into society.

Speaking at the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR) 2024, he commended the UAE’s extensive experience in supporting People of Determination, which he attributed to the country’s sustained efforts over the years.

Lung highlighted the WCR as a vital international platform for exchanging knowledge and best practices with experts from around the world. He noted that the congress’ focus on promoting the employment of People of Determination is crucial for fostering inclusivity and equality.

Many participants at the WCR are showcasing successful initiatives and strategies for empowering People of Determination in their communities. Lung suggested that governments worldwide could adapt these approaches to their local policies to enhance the rights and well-being of this group.

The WCR 2024, held in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Work
and Employment,” aims to address global challenges faced by People of Determination in the job market and promote awareness of their rights and capabilities.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), the congress is taking place until 25th September at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Organised by ZHO in partnership with RI Global and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the Congress is the first of its kind in the Middle East and is attracting over 500 participants from more than 70 countries. Attendees include leading experts, academics, and researchers in rehabilitation and healthcare.
