ABU DHABI: Trends Research and Advisory is participating in the first annual forum of think tanks in Arab countries, held by the Department of Research and Strategic Studies at the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt.
The forum, concluding on 20th December, is being held under the slogan, “With thought, we achieve sustainable development.”
Trends’ participation features a well-designed pavilion that includes more than 200 scientific publications translated into several languages, analysing a wide range of regional and international issues.
In the first session, Trends reviewed the role of think tanks in supporting sustainable development efforts and enhancing their future prospects.
The review included an account of the centre’s research and knowledge efforts in supporting sustainable development, analysing the strategic and security challenges that threaten the Arab region and hinders development efforts. Research and studies recommend effective solutions that pave the way for an Arab sustainable devel
opment future.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of Trends Research and Advisory, said in his intervention, that this pivotal forum brings together Arab think tanks to discuss cooperation and exchange ideas on issues of concern to this important region. It shall facilitate the process of sharing visions and perceptions that enhance the chances of achieving sustainable development in Arab countries.
Dr. Al-Ali explained that Trends Research and Advisory has a similar experience of collective think tank effort, though at a global scale. Trends Research and Advisory holds an annual Trends Round Table for Think Tanks, with wide participation from Arab and international think tanks, ranging from 30 to 40 research institutions and think tanks. The Centre organised a global forum for think tanks in Dubai in 2021 in which 35 directors of global think tanks gathered. Trends hosts other regular conferences and forums on certain issues of interest.
Dr. Al-Ali explained that achieving sustainable development has becom
e the central issue for Arab countries, especially after the challenges of depletion of natural resources and climate change became overwhelming.
For this reason, sustainable development issues and addressing their challenges were placed at the forefront of all international, regional and national forums. Sustainability in economic activities is the first priority for decision-makers in governments around the world, including Arab countries. So, sustainability has been equally important in almost all Arab countries.
Dr. Al-Ali said, “Sustainable development studies, research and consultancy studies are at the forefront of TRENDS’ research programmes. This reflects the Centre’s firm belief that knowledge produces sound solutions to our current and future problems. It reflects the Centre’s belief that the role of think tanks is not only to foresee the future, but to participate in delivering its sustainability’.
Rawda Al Marzouqi, Director of Distribution and Exhibitions Department at Trends Research and Adv
isory, said that the centre enhanced its participation in the first annual forum of think tanks in the Arab countries, with a qualitative knowledge pavilion, filled with more than 200 publications.
Al Marzouqi indicated that the Trends’ pavilion introduces the scientific research output of the Centre at this important forum, which witnesses the participation of dozens of Arab think tanks. She added that this participation opens new areas of cooperation and partnership between research institutions and think tanks.
