TRC Rejects Mobile Companies’ Plans to Adjust Prepaid Line Tariffs

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission TRC has formally communicated its rejection of plans by mobile phone companies to adjust tariffs for prepaid line services. The commission released a statement on Wednesday emphasizing that such proposed changes are not in line with its existing directives and guidelines. Advertisements from mobile service providers recently highlighted potential adjustments to prepaid tariffs. These adjustments hinted at shifting subscribers to more expensive plans with added features, raising subscription rates, or imposing new operational charges. n response to complaints wherein subscribers received notifications of these potential changes via short messages, the TRC, after a detailed assessment, concluded that the proposed tariff adjustments would result in higher prepaid mobile service prices, impacting a considerable segment of their subscribers. As a result, the TRC has directed the companies in question to refrain from implementing these planned tariff changes.
