Transport min., EBRD delegation discuss implementation of joint projects

Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir had talks on Friday with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under Vice President Alain Pilloux, to follow up the implementation of a number of joint projects and future cooperation in the various transport sectors.

The Transport Ministry said in a statement that the two sides reviewed the construction of the first inland dry port (DP6) in Egypt, in the Sixth of October City, west of Cairo, which will be built on an area of 100 feddans. The dry port is one of eight ports the Egyptian government plans to construct. Situated in the 6th of October City; outside the gates of Cairo; the hub is scheduled to become operational in 2022 and predicted to handle 720 containers (20-Foot Equivalent Units) per day – a total of about 250,000 TEU per year.

They also discussed the latest development related to the implementation of the 10th of Ramadan dry port and logistics center project in Egypt. The project is set to benefit from a 1.2-million-dollar grant provided by the EBRD following a funding agreement signed between the international financial institution and the Egyptian General Authority for Land and Dry Ports.

Talks also took up sustainable and green transportation that could help reduce emissions and pollution.

During their meeting, the transport minister reviewed a large number of eco-friendly transportation projects, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Greater Cairo.
