Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir said on Sunday 18/9/2022 the ministry is keen on using modern technology in the Egyptian industry, especially the auto industry, to secure needs of the Egyptian consumer and comply with international tendency towards environment-friendly vehicles.

Samir made the remarks during his meeting with representatives of Shift EV, the first startup in Egypt and the region that operates in electric mobility technology.

Talks tackled the company’s experiment in designing and manufacturing electric vehicle batteries and converting fuel-powered vehicles to run on electric energy.

Samir said the ministry is keen to offer all forms of support to the company.

He urged the company representative to increase local components in electric vehicle technology to secure needs of local markets and export the rest to foreign markets.

Ali el Tayeb, managing director of the company, said the company’s factory is now in the experimental operation stage as many minivans, pick up trucks and tricycles were converted to run on electricity.

He added that the official inauguration of the factory will be announced soon.
