Trade min., Google director discuss industrial sustainable development goals

Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir on Sunday discussed in a meeting with Martin Roeske, Google’s Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for the Middle East and North Africa ways of achieving sustainable development goals in the industrial sector.

Samir said he probed with Roeske how to apply digital transformation as part of the Trade Ministry’s plan to modernize the national industry and develop the capacities of small and medium-sized enterprises through the Google Partners program launched by the international company in Egypt in 2014.

The minister noted the meeting tackled the possibility of benefiting from Google’s applications in linking industrial areas and clusters in various Egyptian governorates to offer better services to investors.

The two sides mulled how to market Egyptian exports of chemical, engineering and electronic industries, in addition to defining information about foreign markets.

On his part, Roeske said the Egyptian market is a Google key market in the Middle East and North Africa, as the company’s total investments in the country are estimated at USD 700 million.

He added Google targets increasing its investments in Egypt in the coming period amid the fruitful cooperation with a large number of the Egyptian government’s bodies.

Roeske said Google aims to assist small and medium-sized enterprises with developing their digital skills to grow their business in Egypt.
