Riyadh – Together – On the sidelines of the meetings of the Executive Council and the General Assembly of the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture, Professor Rizq Salimiya, signed in the Saudi capital – Riyadh, a strategic memorandum of understandings with the Director General of the Arab Center for Studies of Dry Zones and Dry Lands, Dr. Nasr. Al-Obaidi, in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Riyadh, A. Basem Al-Agha and Dr. Raed Al-Jubouri, representative of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
Minister Salimiyeh indicated that this memorandum aims to govern, professionalize and enhance relations and prospects for research, technical and technical cooperation between the two parties in areas of common interest and aimed at achieving the maximum benefit from scientific progress and biotechnology, applying sound management of natural resources, preserving the environment, and developing tec
hnical capabilities for It is of mutual benefit, in addition to benefiting from the expertise and capabilities available to both parties, and employing them to serve the agricultural sector and achieve sustainable agricultural development towards sustainable food security.
This cooperation will include in the early stages the development of improved varieties with high production efficiency and tolerance to drought conditions, supporting the institutional environment for wheat production and improving the general environment of the value chain of this strategic crop.
The two parties also agreed to carry out some joint research on developing innovative and climate-smart agricultural practices to improve the ability of adaptive agricultural systems and maintain production stability in light of climate change, in addition to preserving genetic resources with high tolerance to drought, environmental stresses and salinity, and exchanging genetic material available in Both parties.
For his part, Dr. Nasr Al-Obai
di welcomed this desired cooperation, stressing the readiness of the Center with all its staff, expertise and capabilities to provide all aid and assistance to the State of Palestine.
