Ramallah – Ma’an – Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan and his accompanying delegation visited Jenin Governorate, to learn about the most prominent needs of the cultural scene in the governorate, and to emphasize the strengthening of its cultural infrastructure.
Minister Hamdan was received at the beginning of his visit by the Governor of Jenin Governorate, Kamal Abu Al-Rub, and they discussed the importance of promoting and supporting cultural events and activities in the governorate in light of the fierce attack carried out by the Israeli occupation on Jenin Governorate and its camp.
The governor appreciated the minister’s visit to Jenin Governorate as his first visit since assuming his new position, reviewing the image of the cultural scene in Jenin, its cultural needs, and the destruction of infrastructure that the governorate is exposed to due to the Israeli war machine, and the destruction and devastation it left behind, appreciating the role of the Ministry of Culture in what it is doing. Abu Al-Rub called for the necessity of establishing a cultural palace in Jenin, which embraces all the cultural activities and events that are organized in the governorate, in order to advance the cultural scene with all its components.
In turn, Minister Hamdan said: ‘We are proud today that we are in Jenin Governorate, the source of culture, of which we are proud of its martyrs, its writers, its poets, its men, and we salute the steadfastness of our people in Jenin and its camp in the face of all the barbaric practices of the occupation.
Minister Hamdan added: ‘We are here today to review the cultural needs of the governorate, stressing the importance of having a cultural movement in Jenin, and making every effort to implement activities and events and give creative people their rights, pointing to the number of projects and activities that the ministry will implement in Jenin governorate to enhance the cultural aspect, Calling for the need for all components of society to com
e together in order to enhance the cultural heritage and protect the Palestinian narrative.
Minister Hamdan and Governor Abu Al-Rub chaired an expanded meeting, in the presence of the accompanying delegation, which included the Undersecretary Jad Ghazawi, and the general directors of the public departments in the ministry. The meeting was devoted to cultural events in Jenin Governorate, and the Cultural Advisory Council, to discuss the cultural situation in the governorate and ways to enhance it, and enhance The complementary relationship between the Ministry of Culture, cultural institutions, and civil society institutions, and their suggestions and demands were discussed to push towards and advance a promising cultural scene in the governorate.
Minister Hamdan and the accompanying delegation also met with members of the Popular Committee for Jenin Camp Services, and presented him with a picture of the displacement and Israeli attacks that the camp is being exposed to, demanding the need to support cultura
l centers and cultural projects inside the camp.
The minister and the delegation toured the camp, including a visit to the Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Sherine Abu Aqla memorial.
