The Joint Arab Islamic Ministerial Committee holds official discussions with the US Secretary of StateABU FAOUR: WHAT JUMBLATT SEEKS IS TO FIND COMMON SPACES TO BUILD UPON

Members of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah yesterday held official discussions with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington.

The committee includes the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman al-Safadi, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shukri, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki, and Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan.

The members of the Ministerial Committee stressed their call on the United States to play a broader role in pressuring the Israeli occupation to implement an immediate ceasefire, as the ministers expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the inability of the Security Council to carry out its responsibilities and its failure to adopt a draft resolution cal
ling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip for the second time due to the United States using its ‘Veto’ right.

The members of the Ministerial Committee renewed their unified position regarding their rejection of the continuation of military operations by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, renewing their call for the necessity of an immediate and complete ceasefire to ensure the protection of civilians, an end to the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip, and the lifting of all restrictions that hinder the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.

In addition, the members of the Ministerial Committee expressed their total rejection of all forced displacement, stressing the importance of adhering to international law and international humanitarian law.

The members of the Ministerial Committee reiterated the need for creating a conducive political climate that leads to a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, in accordance with the r
elevant international resolutions, expressing their rejection of compartmentalizing the Palestinian issue and discussing the future of the Gaza Strip separately from the overall Palestinian issue.

MP Wael Abou Faour considered that what is common in the performance of the political forces in the country is a failure to comprehend the seriousness of the stage and the endured crises.

Speaking in an interview with ‘LBCI’ TV Channel, he explained that what leader Walid Jumblatt and MP Taymour Jumblatt are seeking through their current political movement is to find common spaces to build upon and get out of the prevailing crises, such as the vacant security institution positions, the presidential elections and how to address what is happening in the south and its repercussions.

Asked about the meeting with Hezbollah’s delegation, Abou Faour said: ‘The purpose is to maintain a continuous channel of communication. We agree where we agree and disagree where we disagree, but the main topic is organizing the relationship…’

He added, ‘The incentive behind the meeting with Hezbollah was Jumblatt’s confirmation of his advice, which is to adhere to Resolution 1701, keenness on the security institutions, procee
ding with the extension of General Joseph Aoun’s mandate, appointing a new military council, and avoiding some groups that could be active in the south.’
