The Independent Commission warns that the occupation forces will continue to target the health system in the Gaza Strip

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Independent Commission for Human Rights (Board of Grievances) has warned that the occupying power, “Israel,” will continue its systematic targeting of the health system in the Gaza Strip as part of the war of genocide it is waging against the population of the occupied Gaza Strip, before the eyes of the world. It condemns the occupation forces’ targeting, siege and evacuation of Kamal Adwan Hospital, which is the only remaining hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, which portends a health disaster and threatens the death of hundreds of injured people as the aggression against Jabalia camp continues. This comes after most of the main hospitals in the Gaza Strip were out of service, the most recent of which is Al-Awda Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, and Abu Youssef Al-Najjar Hospital in the south of the Strip, which is the main hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health operating in the city, and the main Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central Gaza Strip stopped providing servic
es for several hours. Due to running out of fuel, which posed a threat to the lives of patients there.

The authority said: According to the authority’s documentation, a large number of patients and injured people are crowded into hospital departments and some of them are lying on the floor, including those suffering from serious injuries that require precise and specialized medical care. In addition to the lack of cleanliness and the emission of unpleasant odors from the hospital corridors due to the accumulation of injured and sick people and the non-functioning of the air conditioning and ventilation systems in the departments, and the overcrowding of patients in the emergency departments as a result of most medical clinics and hospitals being out of service, which has increased the burden on them, and the injured and patients wait for up to two days in the emergency departments. Due to the lack of vacant places for them. They also wait days to perform urgent surgical interventions, and the pressure on the
operating rooms and the lack of personnel prevent them from being performed on time.

She added: Closing the Gaza Strip crossings, and not allowing the wounded and sick to leave, exacerbates the crisis of overcrowding in hospitals, as most of the patients referred for treatment abroad occupy their places inside the hospital at the expense of other patients, in addition to the danger to their lives that the failure of dangerous cases to leave for treatment poses, as it According to Ministry of Health data, there are more than 20,000 wounded, cancer and heart patients waiting for the opening of the Rafah crossing to leave for ‘life-saving’ treatment. The occupation’s measures lead to an exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and obstructing the residents of the Gaza Strip from obtaining the necessary treatment and basic health care services undermines their right to health and their access to life-saving medical assistance.

The authority indicated that the Ministry of Health suffers from a severe sho
rtage of its medical personnel, especially specialized ones, in most health facilities and hospitals, as a result of the occupation forces targeting it with killing and arrest, which led to the neutralization of hundreds of doctors and nurses, as many medical personnel and crews have been martyred so far. More than 493 cadres were arrested, and at least 310 workers and specialists in the medical field were arrested. On the other hand, the Ministry’s warehouses suffer from a shortage of medicines and medical supplies, as the medicines available in small quantities run out quickly due to the increasing demand for them from the Ministry of Health’s clinics, such as anesthetics, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, pain-relieving medications, insulin, and chronic medications related to blood pressure diseases. Diabetes, heart, psychiatric and neurological medications, in light of the destruction of most private sector pharmacies, in addition to the cessation of blood supplies and blood products, and the operation of
medical equipment that relies on electricity.

It indicated that the health system and medical care facilities in the Gaza Strip are almost collapsed with the continued systematic targeting by the occupation forces of hospitals and health care providers, and the sick and wounded face their fate in silence, isolation and double suffering, which requires urgent international intervention by international actors, including the World Health Organization. The International Committee of the Red Cross, all international and international human rights bodies, and the international community, to stand up to their legal, moral and humanitarian responsibilities, and to exert serious pressure on the occupying power to fulfill its legal obligations towards the Palestinian people under occupation, and to take immediate measures to put an end to its blatant violations against the Palestinian health sector, which are contrary to the principles of the law. International human rights and international humanitarian law. Enablin
g hospitals to operate and providing them with medical needs to enable them to provide health services, in addition to allowing and assisting in the evacuation of the wounded in need of treatment abroad, including life-saving treatment.

The Commission also urges the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health to launch an immediate investigation into these serious violations and to use his mandate to call for the implementation of the necessary measures to protect the lives of health workers and unimpeded access of the sick and wounded to medical care in accordance with international humanitarian laws that protect health institutions and civilians.
