Textile and Ready-Made Garments Sector Strengthens Local Market Needs and Exports.

Cairo: The textile and ready-made garments sector stands as a crucial pillar for the national economy, as emphasized by Minister of Investment Hassan Al Khatib. His remarks were made during the inauguration of the Destination Africa 2024 exhibition held on November 16-17 at Cairo’s Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Hotel. The event saw participation from over 100 manufacturers from Egypt and other African nations, along with numerous international buyers.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the exhibition is a strategic effort by both public and private sectors to boost exports of textiles and ready-made garments and explore new promising markets. Minister Al Khatib highlighted that this sector not only caters to local market demands but also plays a significant role in enhancing exports to regional and international markets. Furthermore, it contributes to job creation.

The event was organized by the Egyptian Exporters Association – ExpoLink (EEA) in cooperation with the Apparel Export Council of Egypt
, the Egypt Textiles and Home Textiles Export Council (THTEC), and the Egypt Expo and Convention Authority. Destination Africa is an annual international B2B sourcing event that unites African textile, apparel, and home textiles manufacturers with global buyers, aiming to bolster business opportunities and trade activities on a global scale. The event features a regional exhibition with pavilions from various African countries.

Since its inception in 2016, Destination Africa has experienced notable success, with a 74% increase in visitor attendance. This growth has led to an expansion in the number of exhibitors, exhibition space, and the diversity of local, regional, and international visitors.
