Taymour Jumblatt: International community must assume its responsibilities through a quick end to the war

Progressive Socialist Party Head, MP Taymour Jumblatt, stressed that the Israeli brutality that persists in violating the rules of engagement and through destruction and assassination war has rendered the entire region before unprecedented war risks and worrying possibilities.

Jumblatt expressed his concern that such risks “could take things towards the worst if the current escalation is not addressed to avoid a war that Lebanon does not want, while the Israelis are fabricating pretexts, as in the case of the Majdal Shams incident, to sow discord and implement destructive and expansionist plans, and to continue the aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon.’

He, thus, called on the international community to ‘assume its responsibilities in finding serious solutions for a quick ceasefire, and to give priority to the armistice agreement and adherence to UN Resolution 1701.’

In a statement on the sidelines of his Saturday meetings at al-Mukhtara Palace, Jumblatt reiterated “the emphasis on the Lebanese army on
its 79th anniversary, as a basic guarantee for the unity of the nation, which requires rallying around the military institution, fortifying and supporting it, so that it can continue to carry out the national tasks entrusted to it to protect stability and security across the nation.”

On another note and coinciding with the 4th anniversary of the Beirut Port explosion, Jumblatt underlined that “it is time for the truth to be revealed, and for the families and relatives of the martyrs who died in this explosion to have justice.”

He also addressed the issue of ‘the displacement from the south region of those who were forced by the security developments to leave their homes,’ saying: ‘It is necessary to deal with them in accordance with the social, moral, and humanitarian values ??that the people of the Lebanese Mountain enjoy, maintaining the spirit of social and civil solidarity.’
