His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, opened Friday evening the activities of the 7th edition of the Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival. Organised by the Department of Culture, the festival runs from 8 to 12 December, in the Al Kihaif.
The festival began with a mesmerising performance of ” Al Namous” a play written by Sultan Al Neyadi and directed by Mohammed Al Ameri. The play was presented by the Sharjah National Theatre, showcasing the incredible talent of some of the country’s most renowned theatre artists.
The play embodies the Emirati desert environment and emphasises the significance of protecting the land and reputation, hence fostering a life of dignity within society. It also teaches important lessons about self-defense and courage that reflect the admirable
qualities of the people of this noble land.
The performance showcased a diverse range of creative approaches, including elements such as narration, poetry, displays, and the inclusion of horses and camels in the scenes. In addition, a variety of visual elements were employed to establish a unique theatrical environment, effectively communicating the play’s concepts and goals to the viewers.
Following the conclusion of the show, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah met with the actors and other individuals involved in the theatrical play. He praised their exceptional performances, which effectively conveyed the play’s concept to the audience. He expressed his well wishes for success and prosperity to everyone.
The festival showcases the involvement of five theatrical productions from various countries including the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Mauritania. In addition, it is a gathering of numerous theatre artists from various Arab countries who have come together to participate in this festival.

l event’s venue was created to resemble a desert village, covering a vast area in Al Kihaif region. The performance stage was arranged in a picturesque setting, nestled amidst sand dunes, valleys, and tents, equipped with all the necessary audio and visual equipment.
The festival’s programme offers a diverse range of activities that aim to foster knowledge sharing, insights, and encourage communication and interaction among participants and guests.

Youth leaders at COP28 … strong presence to protect the planet
DUBAI: While the world continues to face the impacts of climate change, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) is witnessing a distinguished presence of young leaders to contribute effectively to sustainable development and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The urgent need to activate the role of youth in climate action and provide them with the necessary tools has emerged to enable them to contribute effectively to protecting the planet and its natural resources and preserving the future of humanity.

At COP28, young international leaders are actively participating in various events, discussions, and sessions to consolidate their role in sustainable development efforts and addressing climate change, in addition to opening the way for future leaders of sustainability to share their ideas and opinions.
The UAE is setting a good example by empowering young people to participate in climate action; where it believes in their capabilities and potential and worked to train them and hone their skills to be active in addressing the challenges and effects of climate change to build a future that works for the dreams and ambitions of everyone.
