Stakeholders discuss final stage of comprehensive plan for Aqaba modernisation projects

Chairperson of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef Fayez, and the joint coordination committee of the project to modernise the “Comprehensive Urban Plan for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone” 2040, discussed with members of the Board of Commissioners and the chief representative of the JICA office in Jordan, Morihata Shingo, stages of the project’s progress.

Fayez praised the efforts of the team, partners and stakeholders, lauding their cooperation in organising the plan to enhance investment opportunities in all development sectors, including the economic and social dimensions and transform the Aqaba Special Economic Zone into a smart city.

He stressed that the plan is part of the authority’s strategy and reflects its vision for a road map that stimulates the urban and socioeconomic aspects, infrastructure and services in line with the changes expected in the next twenty years.

He noted that the project has reached the final stage of approving the comprehensive urban plan for Aqaba at t
he end of next August, adding that the projects emerging from the plan would be implemented in the “best possible way.”

Shingo, in turn, said, “We are proud of our partnership with the authority in drafting the comprehensive plan and that the plan aims to transform Aqaba into a smart, logistical, commercial and industrial city, develop its social and environmental situation and enhance its position as one of the most prominent smart cities in the region.”
