Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi has congratulated the Egyptian national women’s team on winning the bronze medal of the Special Olympics Unified Cup 2022, held in Detroit, the US.
Egypt on Friday 05/08/2022 thrashed the Caribbean 6-0 in the playoff match to clinch the bronze.
The minister lauded superb performance shown by the national team, voicing full support for the squad to make further achievements at all international sporting events.
The Special Olympics Unified Cup 2022 was held from July 31 to August 6.
Detroit welcomed over 300 footballers from over 20 nations to compete in football —the world’s most popular sport. Teams are comprised of footballers with and without intellectual disabilities playing together.
The Special Olympics Unified Cup features competition broadcast to hundreds of millions of viewers across the globe. The week-long event showcases athletic performances on the pitch, and highlight stereotype-defying stories off the pitch—changing minds and opening hearts through transformational inclusion.
