South African Minister of Public Service and Administration, Noxolo Kiviet, cried today after she saw first-hand the impact of the Israeli settlers’ attacks carried out almost ten days ago against the town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah. During a field visit to the said town, accompanied by Palestinian officials, the South African minister expressed shock at the impact of the fire and destruction that affected dozens of homes, vehicles, and crops and at the details of the attacks and the evacuation of children and women from homes that were targeted during the attacks, which led to the killing of 27-year-old Omar Jabara. The South African minister said she was shocked and angry because such attacks still occur in the year 2023. She said it is hard to believe that such terrible attacks have occurred until seen with the naked eye, expressing hope this is the last of such attacks. The field visit began with a visit made by the minister to the family home of slain youth Omar Jabara, where she met with his wife, kids, and a number of his relatives to extend her condolences and express her sincere sorrow over his loss. “The experiences of people here are horrific, traumatizing, and sad, particularly for people who came from South Africa and lived in similar circumstances,” said the minister while stressing the similarities between the previous south-African government and the current Israeli government regarding terrorism. ‘What is happening in Palestine depicts what occurred in South Africa in terms of racism and racial and religious segregation. That is why we are paying this visit to support residents, offer our condolences, and stand by them. ‘ said the South African minister. She stressed the importance of implementing United Nations resolutions and international legitimacy that guarantee the establishment of an independent state of Palestine. She stressed that violence begets violence, affirming the need to respect human beings and the peace of all.
