Solidarity min., Somali counterpart discuss Egyptian expertise in social protection

Social Solidarity Minister Nevine Kabbag discussed Thursday 22/9/2022 with Somali Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia Bihi Iman Cige ways of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in the field of training, social protection and economic empowerment of most in-need families and civil society institutions.

The meeting also took up drawing on Egyptian drives in support of youth to help rehabilitate Somali youth and assimilate them into the labor market.

During the meeting, the Egyptian minister reviewed her ministry’s strategies, along with services and efforts meant to support all the societies’ categories, in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives in this regard.

For his part, the Somali minister voiced his country’s keenness on utilizing the Egyptian expertise in the social protection, together with the human-building and human-investment domains.

The two sides agreed on preparing a memorandum of understanding, to be signed within the upcoming period, encompassing regulation of a bilateral cooperation mechanism, as well as sending medical and development-support aid convoys to Somalia to help the country overcome the current draught problem and best exploit its giant fish wealth.

Somali ambassador in Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League (AL) Elias Sheikh Omar Abu-Bakr and a number of Somali parliamentarians took part in the meeting.
