Social Protection Strategy Committee Reviews Progress, Plans Updates

The Steering Committee for the National Social Protection Strategy convened on Tuesday under the leadership of Social Development Minister Wafa Bani Mustafa. The meeting was attended by several ministers, committee members from various ministries and institutions, and representatives from UNICEF.

Bani Mustafa highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives to align the National Social Protection Strategy (2019-2025) with the nation’s broader modernization efforts political, economic, and administrative.

She emphasized the importance of expanding the strategy’s reach to include more Jordanians in its programs. The strategy, which was integrated into the Economic Modernization Vision late last year, now encompasses five initiatives, ten priorities, and over 31 projects.

The meeting’s agenda included a review of achievements to date, future steps, and the methodology for updating the National Social Protection Strategy. The strategy, set to conclude at the end of 2025, will be updated to include a compr
ehensive cost implementation plan linked to a crisis response plan for the first time.

Bani Mustafa underscored the importance of a consultation process involving relevant ministries, official institutions, local communities, civil society organizations, and the private sector. “This process, which will take time, aims to gather diverse perspectives from partners and stakeholders on the programs included in the updated strategy.”

The committee members discussed the methodology and procedures for updating the strategy, focusing on its three core pillars dignity, empowerment, and opportunity and the associated sectoral priorities and timelines.
