Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has confirmed that drug and weapons smuggling across the Syrian border into Jordan is a threat to national security and that Jordan will continue to confront this threat and those behind it.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, said that Jordan provided the Syrian government with the names of smugglers and those behind them, as well as the locations of drug manufacturing, storage, and smuggling routes, which are under the control of the Syrian government, but no real action was taken to neutralize this danger. He pointed out that smuggling attempts have seen a dangerous increase.
“Drug and weapons smuggling from Syria to Jordan, which claimed and injured a number of our brave officers, represent a direct threat to Jordan’s security, and it will continue to be confronted with all determination until it is completely defeated,” Qudah said.
Qudah confirmed Jordan’s readiness to continue coordinating with the Syrian government to stop the smuggling a
nd to hold those responsible and their supporters accountable. He expects practical, effective, and rapid measures against them to be taken by Syrian officials.
The ministry’s spokesperson underlined that Jordan, which has hosted more than 1.3 million Syrian brothers and provided them with security, safety, and a decent living, and the world remembers the brave soldiers of the armed forces who embraced thousands of them as they crossed the border fleeing the war, is keen to ensure the security of Syria and the safety of its people in all parts of Syria, especially in the neighboring governorates of Suwaida and Daraa, which have historical brotherly relations with Jordan.
Qudah rejected any insinuations that the Jordanian border was ever a source of a threat to Syria’s security or a passage for terrorists, whom Jordan was the first to confront. Rather, it has always been and will remain an advocate and supporter of Syria and its generous people in the neighboring governorates of Daraa and Suwaida and in all
parts of Syria.
He reaffirmed that Jordan is continuing its efforts to help end the Syrian crisis and reach a political solution that preserves Syria’s security, unity, and sovereignty, and rids it of terrorism, chaos, and drug gangs, and achieves all the aspirations of its people.
Qudah underscored that Jordan is capable of protecting its borders and security from drug and weapons smuggling gangs, and will defeat them and end the danger they pose with the efforts of the brave armed forces and security agencies.
