President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is participating on Sunday in the fifth semi-annual coordination meeting of the African Union and African Economic Communities held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the Egyptian state news agency (MENA) reported.
During the meeting, El-Sisi will present Egypt’s ambitious roadmap, as the current chair of the Steering Committee of the African Development Agency (NEPAD), for the next two years.
As the current president of the United Nations Climate Conference, COP 27, he will also speak about environmental preservation and climate change and showcase Egypt’s efforts to motivate advanced nations and international financial institutions to provide support and funding to African states to help them confront the repercussions of climate change.
African leaders and heads of government will convene within the framework of the African Union’s (AU) theme for 2023 entitled “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation”.
The meeting will be preceded by the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, held from 13 to 14 July 2023.
The Egyptian president will engage in insightful discussions with fellow African leaders and heads of state on the progress achieved in the commercial integration work program for the African countries and on means to enhance that integration.
These means include measures such as promoting free movement, implementing the unified African passport, and interlinking financial markets and infrastructures of the continent, noted MENA.
The meeting’s agenda goes even further since it tackles financing of Agenda 2063, which focuses on Africa’s economic recovery.
It also focuses on initiatives that address challenges in agriculture, infrastructure, debt management, climate change, security, energy, and health.
