President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underlined the importance of promoting traditional partnership between Egypt and the European Union (EU), taking into consideration that both sides share Mediterranean regional neighborhood.
This geographical location contributed to enhancing civilization, trade, cultural and political link between the two sides.
This came during Sisi’s meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on Thursday, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
For her part, the EU official welcomed Sisi’s visit to the EU HQ, stressing keenness on keeping in touch with Sisi as Egypt is a key strategic partner to the EU.
She stressed the EU’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Egypt in various domains.
Sisi welcomed this continued communication with the EU official, expressing appreciation to the Egyptian-EU ties.
The talks tackled the latest developments in bilateral ties, especially in the fields of renewable energy and green transition in view of Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 later this year.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in combating illegal immigration, extremist thought and terrorism.
The two sides also probed a host of political issues of mutual concern in the Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa.
The EU official highlighted Egypt’s pivotal role in realizing a balance with regard to regional issues.
