President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to spare no effort to ensure a sufficient stock of basic food commodities and keep an eye on their market prices, especially those of subsidized food items.
Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi on Sunday to follow up strategic reserve of staple commodities ahead of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, to start in early April.
Giving an overview of the country’s strategic reserve of food staples, especially wheat, rice, sugar, meat, and chicken, Moselhi said that Egypt’s stock is sufficient to meet the needs of local consumption for at least five months.
The president also discussed the government’s arrangements for the holy month of Ramadan, including the preparations under way to launch Cairo “SuperMarket & Ahlan Ramadan” Exhibition from March 24 until April 2, along with 160 new outlets and 200 mobile convoys nationwide, to offer basic food items at affordable prices.
Sisi also followed up the progress made in a strategic project to increase the storage capacity of state-owned silos.
Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Ihab El Far attended the meeting.
