President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Egypt’s keenness to deepen and strengthen the extended strategic partnership with France, which represents a key pillar to maintain security and stability in the Middle East, East Mediterranean, and Africa.
During his meeting Friday with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace, Sisi said he looks forward to enhancing consultations with the French side within the coming period on various economic, security, and political issues of common interest, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi.
Meanwhile, Macron noted France is committed to supporting bilateral relations with Egypt, lauding President Sisi’s efforts to maintain regional peace and security.
The two leaders discussed a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian cause and ways to revive the peace process. In this regard, Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm stance toward reaching a just and comprehensive resolution to the cause that guarantees the Palestinians’ rights.
Macron voiced his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s support in the Palestine issue and its effort to help the Palestinian people overcome various challenges.
The two presidents also tackled developments of the situation in the East Mediterranean, Libya, Syria, and Lebanon. In this regard, President Sisi asserted the importance of reaching political solutions to maintain these countries’ unity and combat the terrorist groups.
The French president said his country looks forward to intensifying coordination with Egypt about the Middle East issues, lauding its efforts to reach political solutions for the current crises.
The meeting touched on the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its ramifications, said the spokesman.
The president also briefed Macron on Egypt’s preparations for holding the UN climate conference (COP27) in November.
