Sisi directs govt to pursue plan for advancing textile industry

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi instructed the government to proceed with a plan for advancing the labor-intensive textile industry, as part of the State’s comprehensive development strategy.

Sisi’s instructions came during his meeting on Tuesday2/8/2022 with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Public Business Sector Minister Hisham Tawfiq to follow up on the State’s plan for developing the textile industry in Egypt, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

The public business sector minister briefed the president on the efforts to establish the world’s largest textile factory in El Mahalla El Kubra city, in Gharbia governorate.

The 62,000 square-meter-factory, which is due to be inaugurated in 2023, would be equipped with the latest machinery for producing long-staple and extra-long staple cotton.

Tawfiq reviewed the efforts to establish an Egyptian company for marketing and selling all products of the companies working in the sector of spinning and weaving, as well as manufacturing ready-made garments.

The public business sector minister also posted President Sisi on his ministry’s endeavors to automate the cotton trading system, in cooperation with the ministries of trade and agriculture.
