Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted the necessity of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the entry of humanitarian assistance to help civilians who were displaced by the continued Israeli bombing.

A serious track has started with an international consensus for just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, added the president.

Sisi’s remarks came while receiving a US delegation including US Senator Chris Van Hollen and Senator Jeff Merkley, in presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Thursday.

Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said the meeting is part of constant consultation between Egypt and US on all fronts, with special focus on the current regional conditions and particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Fahmi added the US side is keen on listening to the vision of the president on the current situation that underscores the necessity of the ceasefire, trading of hostages and prisoners, delivery of humanitarian as
sistance and relief of civilians.

The spokesman said that both sides reiterated their rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinians, in addition to the importance of promoting efforts to calm down the situation in the region in general in order to enhance security and stability at both the regional and international levels.

He added the US delegation commended the historic role of Egypt in this regard and the country’s non-stop efforts to achieve peace, stability and development.
