Sisi asserts keenness on promoting ties with Djibouti

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has asserted Egypt’s keenness on enhancing ties and entrenching strategic cooperation with Djibouti in all fields to set up sustainable partnership between the two countries.

This came during Sisi’s meeting with Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh at Ittihadiya Palace on Monday.

Guelleh was given a red-carpet reception and the national anthems of both countries were played.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Rady said the two presidents held a tete-a-tete session of talks that was followed by an expanded one in the presence of delegations of both countries.

On the bilateral front, Sisi asserted the importance of developing cooperation projects between the two countries in the coming phase and to remove all hurdles standing in their way especially the sectors of infrastructure, energy and health, along with increasing joint investments and trade exchange, the spokesman said.

Talks also covered establishing an Egyptian logistic area in Djibouti as well as joint efforts to enhance military and security cooperation and means of combating terrorism and extremist thought, according to the spokesman.

Guelleh, for his part, voiced his country’s resolve to develop bilateral ties on all fronts especially amid tensions in the Horn of Africa region and the Red Sea, a matter which necessitated beefing up joint cooperation and consultations with the Egyptian leadership, the presidential spokesman noted.

Talks also covered the latest regional developments in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa, the Grand Ethiopian Da, as well as other security-related issues, the spokesman said.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation deals in the fields of political consultation, energy, renewable resources, logistics among others.
