Sisi agrees on launching 2022-2026 national plan for combating drugs

Social Solidarity Minister and Chairwoman of the National Fund for Drug Control and Addiction Treatment Nevine el Qabbag announced that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi agreed on launching the 2022-2026 national plan for combating drugs that was draw up by her ministry in the past period.

 

Her announcement came in a ceremony held on Thursday 14/4/2022 to give the green light of a new phase of the “You Are Stronger than Drugs” campaign, which sees the voluntary participation of Liverpool’s Egyptian star winger Mohamed Salah.

 

Qabbag added that an integrated database on the rates of drug abuse and addiction in Egypt was developed based on the results of an overall national survey of drug abuse and addiction.

 

She noted that the survey showed the rates of drug abuse in Egypt decreased to proportions that are consistent with international rates.

 

The social solidarity minister went on to say that the demand for drug abuse treatment saw an increase by more than 400%, citing that the average annual rate of drug abusers seeking treatment reached 140.

 

She indicated that the National Fund for Drug Control and Addiction Treatment was interested in developing the infrastructure of addiction treatment centers, where the current number of those centers stand at 28 in 17 governorates.
