Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Egypt is looking forward to the convocation of the EU-Egypt Association Council to endorse the EU-Egypt partnership priorities document for 2017-2020.
He highlighted that this document should mark a leap in institutional cooperation between the two sides in various fields, including agriculture, irrigation, industry, artificial intelligence, green transition, digitization and smart transportation.
Shoukry made the remarks on Wednesday 1/6/2022 during a meeting in Cairo with Olivér Várhelyi, the EU Neighbourhood and Enlargement Commissioner, within the framework of promoting partnership between the two sides, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
Hafez noted that Várhelyi’s visit to Egypt came in view of a boost in Egypt-EU relations.
Shoukry underlined that Egypt is looking forward to enhancing this partnership.
He stressed the importance of furthering cooperation to deal with the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on Egypt, especially with regard to food security.
He also accentuated the importance of cementing cooperation in the energy domain, especially green hydrogen production.
Shoukry also reviewed Egypt’s preparations for the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).
Hefez said the talks tackled a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on the importance of furthering cooperation and maintaining continued coordination and consultations at various levels.
