Foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Friday 3/8/2023 that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström. During the call Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry expressed Egyptian side’s resentment and refusal to allow the recurrence of incidents of burning and desecration of the Holy Quran.
Shoukry also affirmed that these incidents violate human rights, threaten peaceful coexistence, and fuel extremism, according to Abu Zeid.
Furthermore, Shoukry stressed to Tobias Billström countries should take effective measures to forestall these incidents and prevent them from recurring, calling on governments to refrain from underestimating what people hold sacred, to counter hate speech, and to foster peace in society, Abu Zeid added.
