Shoukry receives phone call from his Beninese counterpart

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has received a phone call from his Beninese counterpart Shegun Adjadi Bakari for talks on the latest developments in Niger.

Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Shoukry asserted the importance of settling Nigerian crisis through diplomatic ways and discussed all means available to work out a settlement that maintains the security and stability of the African state without any interference in its domestic affairs.

Shoukry added that Egypt was supporting all efforts aimed at finding out a solution for the crisis and called on all relevant parties to get involved into serious talks to reach a political settlement, the spokesman explained.

The Egyptian top diplomat also pressed the necessity of shouldering responsibility regarding the humanitarian impact of the crisis and probed with the Beninese minister all means to allow access to humanitarian aid to the Niger’s people.

Bakari, for his part, reiterated his country’s keenness on consulting with Shoukry on the latest developments in Niger and reviewed his country’s efforts along with steps taken by ECOWAS bloc to settle the crisis.

The spokesman also noted that the two ministers’ talks also covered bilateral relations as both affirmed the importance of maintaining the leap achieved in the two countries’ relations.

The two ministers also underlined the importance of continuing consultations and coordination regarding all issues at the regional and international levels, added the spokesman.
