Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has reiterated Egypt’s support for efforts aimed at achieving calm on the Palestinian-Israeli area and halting Israel’s unilateral measures that worsen the situation in the Palestinian territories.
During a meeting on Tuesday 7/2/2023 with European Union Envoy to the Middle East Peace Process Sven Koopmans, Shoukry said achieving tranquility would pave the way for resuming peace negotiations in line with the international legitimacy resolutions.
They discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, who added that Shoukry warned of the continued escalation on the security and stability of the region and its impact on the two-solution chances.
Shoukry said that Egypt looks forward to efforts exerted by international partners topped by the EU to put an end to tension between the Palestinians and Israelis and encourage the two parties to resume peace negotiations.
For his part, the European official expressed the EU’s keenness on consultations with Egypt on conditions in the Palestinian territories.
The meeting was a chance for the two sides to exchange viewpoints, said Abu Zeid, adding the EU official was keen to listen to Shoukry about the progress made in the Gaza reconstruction process in light of Egypt’s efforts to calm down situation.
