Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said the inter-ministerial Arab contact group on the Russia-Ukraine crisis convened on Monday in Russia to discuss serious repercussions of the crisis for both international peace and security, which also extend to various economic levels, including global energy and food security.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a press conference bringing together the delegation of the Arab contact group and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.
Members of the inter-ministerial Arab contact group have held a meeting with the Arab League secretary general and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss means of resolving the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Shoukry said.
The meeting reviewed well-established, strong and historic relations binding the world with the countries and peoples of Russia and Ukraine, he added.
The move is made as the Arab countries realize the gravity of the current situation of the Ukrainian crisis, in addition to its dangerous effects on brotherly peoples inside and outside the conflict zone and on international peace and security, as well as on various economic arenas including global energy and food security, he said.
The crisis may also lead to deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the conflict zone, he added.
“During the meeting, we expressed concern about prolonging the current crisis, and called on all parties to the conflict to stop escalation and not to resort to military action,” Shoukry said.
We also called for immediately resorting to peaceful and diplomatic solutions, based on dialogue, he noted.
