ABU DHABI: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has designated Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), part of PureHealth, as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Burn Treatments, marking a significant advancement in healthcare services in the emirate.
SSMC’s Burn Treatments CoE will provide comprehensive care, serving as the primary facility for burn patients in Abu Dhabi, offering consultations, treatment, and intensive care.
The designation was marked by a ceremony at SSMC, attended by Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Under-Secretary of DoH, Rashed Saif Al Qubaisi, PureHealth Group Chief Operating Officer, and Dr. Marwan Al Kaabi, Acting CEO of SSMC.
SSMC offers advanced burn care through a multidisciplinary approach, including a 20-bed ICU, dedicated operating room, and internationally recognised burn specialists.
The centre also uses cutting-edge technology, such as biodegradable temporising matrix (BTM) for treating severe burns, and is involved in research and burn prevention programmes.

i noted that the CoE designation reflects DoH’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes, while Al Qubaisi highlighted PureHealth’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art facilities and enhancing community wellbeing.
CoEs in Abu Dhabi must meet stringent criteria set by DoH, including clinical outcomes, patient safety, and research contributions.
