In celebration of Arab Document Day on 17th October, The Documents House in the Emirate of Sharjah launched the “Documents are a Trust” campaign.

The initiative seeks to underscore the significance of various documents for safeguarding the histories of nations and communities. The campaign aims to enhance understanding of the Archives’ function in safeguarding government documents through the establishment of a thorough management system for Sharjah’s government entities.

It emphasises the importance of documenting and safeguarding historical facts and events to ensure they remain unchanged and accurate. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s statement, “A document is the cornerstone upon which future generations will rely to preserve their identity and refute any falsification or theft of their past and present,” resonates with this.

The campaign invites community members to contribute by submitting their documents or copies to enhance the emirate’s archival resources.

Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al
Qasimi, Chairman of the House, highlighted that the campaign arises from a profound conviction in the essential role of documents in safeguarding the emirate’s history. He emphasized that documents are more than mere records of events; they represent trust, which we must safeguard for generations to come.

The House of Wisdom in Sharjah will host the campaign for two days, on 14th and 15th October. The campaign will encompass exhibitions and workshops centred on document restoration and preservation, along with a photographic exhibition named “The First in Sharjah,” which will showcase the early stages of the emirate’s development.
