SHARJAH: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) continues to organise lectures and various events as part of its educational and heritage awareness campaign.

Dr. Abdulaziz A Musallam, Chairman of SIH, said, “The rich cultural heritage in the UAE is linked to a close relationship with the authenticity of society and the values of its individuals.”

Through a series of lectures and events held at the institute’s headquarters, SIH strives to enhance community awareness of Emirati heritage as a symbol of national identity.

Aisha Ghabish, Director of the Department of Events and Activities at SIH, describes the campaign as a comprehensive heritage programme. Organised during July in conjunction with the summer break, it offers a variety of lectures and events.

This new initiative aligns with the institute’s longstanding goals of preserving Emirati heritage and identity, fostering understanding and harmony, and cultivating a sense of pride in local values.

The first part of the campaign, held on 3rd and 4th J
uly, focused on the UAE’s maritime heritage. Events included a discussion session led by Emirati heritage researcher Juma Bin Thalith on the characteristics of the marine environment and associated customs and traditions.

An exhibition showcasing maritime heritage complemented the session, along with traditional songs performed by the Bin Majid Society for Folk Arts and Rowing, with children’s participation. Additionally, the programme featured popular games, workshops, and educational activities like storytelling, pottery painting, and various competitions.

The upcoming phase of the campaign, scheduled for 8th and 11th July, will host workshops and lectures dedicated to raising awareness of Emirati heritage vocabulary. This initiative builds upon the broader summer season of heritage awareness activities launched by SIH in mid-May, which encompasses various events and discussions on heritage and culture across Sharjah.
