Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labor, Yousef Shamali, and Turkish Ambassador to Jordan, Erdem Ozan , on Wednesday discussed arrangements to hold the first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee during the coming period and mechanisms to enhance mutual economic cooperation, especially in the commercial fields, to serve their common interests. In their meeting, which was attended by the ministry’s Secretary-General, Dana Zoubi, the two sides stressed importance of continuing efforts to increase joint economic cooperation in trade and investment fields, stimulating the private sector in this regard, exchanging expertise and benefiting from the two countries’ available opportunities, especially after their trade and economic cooperation agreement entered into force. Shamali said this agreement builds on previous economic achievements and paves way to further strengthen bilateral cooperation by facilitating expertise exchange and technology transfer and secures an “attractive” environment for companies to conduct business that would contribute to expanding and diversifying trade activities. Shamali added that the agreement also aims to achieve a “fresh” level of joint economic and trade partnership. Establishment of the new joint economic committee at the ministerial level provides the “necessary” platform to assess bilateral trade, investment and economic relations to come up with recommendations to remove any specific obstacles and expand trade and investment ties, Shamali pointed out. Meanwhile, Turkish envoy expressed hope that the coming period will witness more bilateral cooperation in various fields, activation of trade exchange, and establishment of investments in both countries, based on their “strong and historical” relations. The necessary arrangements to holding the first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee were discussed, according to a Trade Ministry statement. Volume of Jordanian-Turkish trade exchange during the first five months of 2023 amounted to about $410 million, of which $30.4 million were Jordanian exports and the rest were imports of Turkish goods, official data showed.
