Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker had talks with Greek Ambassador to Egypt Nikolaos Garilidis on means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the electricity and renewable energy domains as well as the latest developments in the joint power linkage project.
In statements on Wednesday, the minister said cooperation with Greece falls within the framework of the vision of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as well as the government’s policy to enhance its role as a regional energy hub in the eastern Mediterranean region.
Shaker lauded the efforts exerted to finalize needed procedures for the power linkage project which represents an important gate for linking Egypt and Europe through Greece and Cyprus. This will also promote Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub.
He expounded that this historical project is of great importance to Egypt’s strategy for realizing economic development securing energy. He added that the political leadership is deeply interested in power linkage projects, especially in Africa which has great hydropwer in Africa. The power linkage project between northern and southern the Mediterranean will help generating clean energy, he said.
For his part, the Greek ambassador lauded the distinguished political relations between Egypt and Greece. He highlighted the importance of furthering bilateral ties, adding that this project will realize economic and political benefits for the states’ concerned. He added that the project will be an important energy hub in Europe.
