Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi and International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat attended the signing ceremony of three cooperation protocols to implement investment plan projects to purify the country’s Kitchener Drain.
The cooperation protocol was signed between the Local Development Ministry and the governorates of Kafr el Sheikh, Gharbia and Dakahlia governorates.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) invest in the projects at a cost of 79 million euros and eight million euros respectively.
The projects will involve establishing several recycling factories and having a sanitary landfill with waste treatment in the three governorates.
The signing of the agreement is part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to the government to improve water quality, a matter which will contribute to improving the health and environmental conditions in about 182 villages in the three governorates, said Shaarawi.
The Local Development Ministry will work to upgrade the efficiency of the process of waste collection and transportation in the three governorates, at investments worth 34.5 million euros in Kafr el Sheikh, 18.5 million euros in Gharbia and 20 million euros in Dakahlia, added Shaarawi.
Shaarawi, meanwhile, extended thanks to President Sisi for his keenness on following up on the implementation of the new system for managing solid waste.
He also said that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli follows up all the programs of the new system, which cost about EGP 12 billion.
The International Cooperation Ministry spares no effort in holding coordination with the Local Development Ministry and the international development partners to support the projects and initiatives which are implemented in the governorates, he added.
