Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour said that his ministry has floated several initiatives to support international cooperation in the field of university education, pointing out to the Egyptian universities’ expansion in signing cooperation protocols with elite international universities to grant dual academic degrees.
Ashour’s remarks were made during his meeting with Assistant Director General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Education Stefania Giannini on the fringe of the UNESCO executive council’s meeting in Paris.
The higher education minister said four national universities have been established to offer modern academic programs in partnership with prestigious international universities, noting that 12 national universities have started operation in the academic year 2022/2023.
He said the New Administrative Capital is currently hosting branches for foreign universities which offer outstanding international education to encourage Egyptian students to study in the country instead of traveling abroad to get university degrees.
The UNESCO official, for her part, welcomed the state’s efforts to develop the higher education system, noting that UNESCO is ready to extend help and technical support for the sake of honing the humanitarian skills in the various fields as well as training university professors to benefit from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative floated during the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research (GFHS) which was held in Egypt in December 2021.
The two sides discussed means of expanding the scope of cooperation as well as implementing a program for building the capabilities of the Egyptian universities in the field of heritage preservation along with several scientific specializations.
