The New York Times reported on Saturday that for more than two years, Yahya Sinwar met with senior Hamas leaders and planned what they hoped would be the most destructive and destabilizing attack on Israel in Hamas’s four-decade history.

The newspaper based its report on the minutes of secret Hamas meetings, captured by the Israeli occupation army and obtained by The New York Times, which provide a detailed record of the planning for the October 7 attack known as Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa, as well as Sinwar’s determination to persuade Hamas’s allies, Iran and Hezbollah, to join the attack or at least commit to a broader fight with Israel if Hamas launched a surprise raid across the border.
