RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s “Film Deposit” initiative through the National Film Archive will collect and archive Saudi films for future generations, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

Saudi Film Commission announced in a press release that the objective of the initiative is to gather Saudi films from various sources, such as companies and filmmakers. The Commission will securely deposit and preserve the films at a designated headquarters while also documenting Saudi Arabia’s cinematic history and capturing its cultural and artistic dimensions.

The “Film Deposit” initiative began with establishing the Saudi Film Registry, which contains data of over 1,000 films, including feature films and documentaries.

The project marks a significant step to offer access for those interested in films that constitute landmarks in local cinematic history. The initiative also contributes to expanding the appreciation of the Kingdom’s vast artistic and cultural heritage.
