Saudi Ambassador to Amman, Nayef bin Bandar al-Sudairy, underlined on Monday Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to help the agency meet its financial obligations.

During a meeting with UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini, where he handed over financial support, al-Sudairy emphasized the agency’s crucial role in providing humanitarian aid and improving living conditions, education, and medical services for Palestinian refugees.

Lazzarini expressed his gratitude for the Saudi donation, noting that it would enable UNRWA to continue its programs, particularly in education and health, while assisting the most vulnerable Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. He highlighted that more than 650,000 children in Gaza are currently out of school and experiencing severe psychological trauma, stressing that bringing children back to education must be a collective priority.

He also warned of the dire situat
ion in Gaza, which has become almost unrecognizable after a year of hardship, and cautioned against the potential consequences if Israeli draft laws aimed at halting UNRWA’s work are passed.
