Saqqaf stresses importance of investing in Dead Sea Development Zone

Minister of Investment, Kholoud Saqqaf, said investment in the Dead Sea Development Zone (DSDZ) is “important,” which necessarily requires upgrading and developing the area’s conditions. According to a ministry statement, Saqqaf stressed keenness to stimulate investment opportunities, generate new job opportunities and spur the zone’s tourism sector. Saqqaf’s remarks came during her tour on Sunday, in the DSDZ to check on work progress in a number of public and service facilities. The minister also visited a slew of the zone’s investment projects and met a number of investors, to identify their needs, and provide “practical” solutions to any challenges. Saqqaf stressed importance of Jordan’s development zones for the national economy, which help distribute development gains to all the Kingdom’s governorates and contribute to creating job opportunities for Jordanians. In addition, Saqqaf stressed the zone’s importance, as a “key” development area, given the global advantages provided by the Dead Sea and its geographical location on the world map. She called on stimulating investment, in light of these Dead Sea privileges, which would guarantee reviving the zone’s investor movement, improve services and accelerate completion of development work. In this regard, she referred to efforts to establishing and maintaining basic infrastructure, carrying out improvements and maintenance operations, providing environmental requirements, waste collection and disposal services. These efforts, she noted, would make Jordan’s development zones “highly” competitive in attracting new investments. Until end of 2022, volume of existing, contracted and approved investments in the Dead Sea Development Zone amounted to approximately JD724 million. During 2022, Jordan Development Zones Company (JDZ) signed various development agreements in the Dead Sea Development Zone, with an expected investment volume up to JD34 million.
