Lima – On the opening of the legislative year in Morocco, HM King Mohammed VI highlighted the majority support within UN member countries to the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative in the Sahara, all while reiterating the Kingdom’s ‘firm position’ on this artificial conflict, said Peruvian MP Ernesto Bustamante.

The Peruvian parliamentarian stressed in a statement to MAP, the importance of noting that ‘more than 112 countries out of the 193 member states of the United Nations support the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only solution to this artificial regional conflict.’

The MP added in this respect that HM the King has particularly emphasized France’s support within the framework of the ‘current international momentum’ on the Sahara issue.

The Sovereign also stressed that ‘some thirty countries have established consulates general in the main cities of the southern provinces, Dakhla and Laayoune,’ said Bustamante, who was Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Peru’s legislative institution.

He added t
hat ‘it is important to stress that the Moroccan autonomy initiative will enable regional integration, guaranteeing peace, security and development in the region.’
