The World Rehabilitation Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi, held under the theme “Work and Employment,” has brought together global participants to address key challenges in integrating People of Determination into the labour market.
The event focuses on developing solutions to improve employment opportunities for People of Determination worldwide.
Russia’s Sverdlovsk region is represented by a delegation of government officials and business leaders, aiming to expand cooperation with the UAE.
Elmira Tukanova, Director of the Department for Tourism Development and the Hospitality Industry in Sverdlovsk, emphasised the significance of participating in the congress: ‘We are here to exchange insights, and learn from the UAE’s experience in promoting accessible tourism.’
She also underlined the importance of ongoing collaboration. “After the UAE served as the partner country at the Innoprom exhibition [an industrial trade fair held in Russia in July], continuing this cooperation and adopting their best practices for
our region has become essential.”
Nina Ruchkina, founder of a fashion house and member of the delegation, spoke about her social initiative. “In Yekaterinburg [city and the administrative centre of Sverdlovsk], we launched a project where children with disabilities create artwork that we then use to design scarves. This not only involves them in a creative process but also gives them a sense of worth.”
She added, “This initiative brings more than joy; it provides them with an opportunity to contribute to the business world. The scarves with their designs, as well as other products like souvenirs, help them generate an independent income.”
Nina also discussed a new project on the horizon. “For UAE National Day, we are preparing a special scarf design that blends Russian and Arab motifs, symbolising the union of our cultures through fashion.”
The Sverdlovsk oblast delegation remains focused on deepening ties with UAE partners, aiming to apply the UAE’s successful practices in inclusive tourism and accessibi
lity development back in the region.
