Russia playing active role in discussions at COP28: Finance Minister


Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has said that his country is playing an active role in the discussions at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the now-running global event, the Russian minister highlighted the Ministry’s participation in COP28.

Siluanov underscored Russia’s dedication to achieving carbon neutrality and outlined the nation’s comprehensive strategy to mitigate climate change. He pointed to the implementation of the National Project “Ecology,” a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and improving public health, as well as Federal projects ‘Low-carbon Development Policy’ and ‘Clean Air’.

The minister elaborated on Russia’s efforts to promote green finance instruments, including green bonds, government funding mechanisms, tax incentives, green mortgages, and sustainable procurement practices. These measures are designed to encourage R
ussian companies to adopt environmentally friendly production processes and align their operations with global sustainability goals.

Russia’s active engagement at COP28 underscores its recognition of the urgent need for collective action to address climate change. The country’s commitment to carbon neutrality and its implementation of comprehensive environmental policies demonstrate its resolve to contribute to a sustainable future for all.
