The run-off local elections will probably be held on February 4, 2024 in 780 constituencies after all legal challenges will have been exhausted, i.e. by January 18 at the latest, announced Spokesman for the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Mohamed Tlili Mnasri.
He added in a statement to TAP, that the authority had lodged a single appeal against the administrative court’s ruling on the results of one candidate.
The adoption of the calendar for the run-off and the final results of the first round of local elections is scheduled for January 20, 2 days after the announcement of the final outcome of the challenges, he explained.
Mnasri considered that the date of February 4, 2024 would allow candidates to conduct their election campaigns for the run-off.
The election campaign will run between January 21 and February 2, during the school holidays.
He added that the local elections will be held in 780 constituencies out of a total of 2,129, i.e. 36% of all constituencies.
This run-off involves
255 local councils out of a total of 279 local councils, following the election of members of 24 local councils in the first round.
The ISIE spokesman added that 4 million 192 thousand voters are involved in the run-off in 2039 polling centres to elect 560 thousand candidates in the various constituencies.
The governorate of Kasserine has the largest number of constituencies (54), while Kebili has the smallest number, with just 4 constituencies.
